FOOD

It has been a long month. As a teacher I get paid once a month and at Christmas time we get my January check before we leave for the holidays, usually sometime around Dec 20th. I did well and had a majority of my check last a lot longer this year.... I am so glad to day is payday! The food is getting scarce.

Food is important for the daily life, we need less of it than we think we do at times. Since my heart attack in November I have been pretty much a vegetarian, I have always loved salads, most veggies, and beans so it wasn't hard for me to virtually cut out meats. It is harder to find good fresh veggies here in this area during the winter months. Maybe I should grow my own again.

Physical food is not the only food I need to sustain my life. I need to daily study the Word of God, that is were I get my meat to chew on. I read my bible and devotional, then I usually work on this before I go to work. All these activities give me guidance and meditative words to carry me through the day. Often they can be my strength in a time of need. Spiritual food helps me grow if I let it, in order for it to do that, I have to put the words (food) into practice. I pray that the words (food) I study daily will become alive in my life and visible to those who need to see them. I want this food to give me strength to handle all that comes my way everyday.

RELIGION

Sorry this is late today.... had a few issues...

I have always be interested in this word and what it really means in the bible; in particular when James says in James 1:26-27 “If any man thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this; to visit the orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” Religion in these verses means worship. The Greek word used is Threskeia. This same Greek word is used in Acts 26:5 and in Colossians 2:18. So religion in this context does not mean what the world says it means, Baptist, Catholic, Mormon, and all the others. Looking at the Greek it has nothing to do with what church is attended or a denomination. That really changes the idea of the verses in James; “If any man thinks he is worshipping and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s worship is useless. Pure and undefiled worship before God and the Father is this; to visit the orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”  I for one want my worship to be a pure and a sweet savour to the Lord (Ezra 6:10). I should not be worried about what group, or church I attend or don’t attend of as long as my worship is pleasing to God.

The Quote:
“Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair.”

QUICK

This morning in my bible reading I was reminded that being quick to speak all that is on your mind is not a very smart idea. (Proverbs 29:11 & 20). I so often speak before I think, not only speak, I am sarcastic when I do it. I need to stop. Plan and simple, the words that come from my mouth in a quick fashion are usually toxic and hurtful. Even if I don't mean them that way. If I would let the meditations of my heart be on the LORD more this would not be the case. I am to quick to put aside the things that I know I should do, for the things I want to do. Instead of blasting out words that don't edify a person or give them a feeling of well being, even if the situation is strained  (an argument or for correction) then I am not speaking the way God would have me speak.  I need to stop and think before I speak, that is my prayer today!

The Quote:
"Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." ~James 1:18-20

DECISIONS

Decisions are not always easy to make. Make the wrong one, and all kinds of things can happen. It can have a domino effect. We make decisions good and bad everyday, giving us joy or heartache. Praying about choices and decisions that we need to make is important, it is also hard to wait for the answer. The sign at the church I attend says "Delay is not denial, so keep praying" That is exactly right. Whether the decision is big or small, God is going to give you the answer in His time. If we push ahead, do what we think is best we may miss the blessing He had in store.
I have a couple of tough decisions to make. I am sure that God will lead me. Unfortunately, I am feeling rushed or pushed to make the decision that others may think is right. Right now I am asking anyone who is reading my blog to pray for me and these decisions, that I make the choice God wants; that I and others have the patience to wait. Thanks :)

NERVOUS

Many times I am rushing to get things done and at least get the word up here, the drawing always takes a bit of thinking. Today is no different really. I am rushing to get this up to go to church. After church I need to get lesson plans done for this week, and then I need to think through some things, on Tuesday I am having my formal observation. This evening I have choir practice and church. I don't like it when I have so much going on. It makes me nervous that I will forget something important.

God wants us to be careful for nothing. In other words not to worry. That is easier said than none many times. I am not really worried about my observation, what happens, happens. Life is unpredictable most of the time and children definitely are. You never know what one will do next. I just need to remember I have taught them how to act and I have taught them what they need to know to this point and if something goes wrong it was for a reason. We can learn from ever thing that happens to us good and bad, happy or sad. I want everything to go well, and if I stay calm and teach like I know how to teach, all will, even if there is a mishap. My prayer is that this nervous feeling will go away.

The Quote:
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." ~Philippians 4:6

MULTIMEDIA

This is a word I use in school quite a bit now with the children. It is fun trying to get them to figure out what a word like this means. They come up with some very interesting ideas. One child (second grade) said it is something that happens over and over again. which could be true in a way if "multi" was multiply which was the first thing they thought. I asked what media was and the first thing they think is size, like a medium shirt. Of course the word has to do with there being multiple forms of communication in one presentation or project. It has to include 2 or more of the following types of media in one project, animation, sound, text, graphics, and interactivity.

I think that God is a Multimedia type God. He talks to us in many ways. He speaks through His Spirit, through His Word. He can even speaks through people and music. He also speaks through His creation, and the beauty of it all. The trick is listening, watching. acknowledging, believing, and doing or changing something because of what he has presented. He will not blast us with overwhelming bombardments of noise and images. His ways are meek and glorious. That is not to say that a storm wouldn't be a message from God, it could be, and yes it may be loud and overbearing but it is also glorious when viewed in the right way! I need to start seeing God more in all that is around me!

The Quote:
"Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice."  ~I Kings 19:11-12

WAIT

When I have to wait I get impatient at times, like a child who wants a cookie. Their Mom is in the middle of doing something important, she says to wait. The child can chose to do as the Mother has said and wait, until she brings the cookie to them. They can jump up and down, cry, and plead until Mom either gives in or says they will not be getting a cookie at all for their behavior.  Or they can go try to get it themselves, possibly get hurt or brake something.

Waiting on an answer to prayer is like this also. When we pray we want an answer right away. We get impatient. God has perfect timing, He knows when and what is best for us. He will give us the answer in due time. Our job is to wait and and be thankful for the answer that will come. I have to admit I am usually like the second or third child, I  beg, beg, beg, jump up and down and yell about waiting an answer, while God simply says, you still have to wait, maybe even longer now. Or I jump in and do what ever I can to make MY answer come about, that is when something usually gets broken or I get hurt.

God says to wait on him.... I need to do that better.

The Quote:
"Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!"  ~Psalms 27:14

QUESTIONS

"So many questions I must ask myself today, I wonder if Jesus things I have done my share today?" Andrus and Blackwood sang this song a long time ago. I liked it then and I put the lyrics in the front of my Bible.

I have many questions everyday. I have decisions to make. I need to remember while making those decisions and asking the questions "what would Jesus do?"  I know that is another "catch" phrase, it is still true as a christian I should want to do all things as Jesus would do them. I need to think about that before the decision is made not after. If I want to question my life and ask myself if Jesus would think I had done my share I should first ask what would Jesus do. Then I can be sure if I follow His lead I will be doing what He would do. I should actually pray about the question or decision and ask Jesus what He would do and what I should do. He won't speak audibly to me, He will guide me by giving me a peace about the decisions and the questions.  It is my choice to follow His lead or not and that will make the difference when I have to ask, "I wonder if Jesus thinks I have done my share today?"

The Quote:

FEARFUL

I am fearful about many things. Being fearful is not the same as being afraid. I am fearful of God's displeasure when I know I have done something that is not pleasing to Him, I am not afraid of Him, He would never harm me. I am fearful I may lose my eyesight someday, that isn't going to stop and cause me to be afraid. Fearful is more like a conscientious awareness of something that has the potential to be scary and deal with it in the appropriate manner. If I let fear of little things cloud my thoughts I might not live a full life. Being fearful of God is needed, I need to remember He is always there. That in turn should help me to try and live a life that is pleasing to Him. As far as my eyes, I need to be fearful enough to take care of them, in doing so hopefully they will be in working order for a very long time. If I do lose the ability to see, I will deal with it, I will not be afraid. There are many more things that I am fearful about some are just silly and others are important. I need to get control of my fears and not let them control me.

DIFFERENT

We are all different. There are not two people in this world who are exactly the same. Even identical twins are different in some ways. Those differences make us special. The color of our skin, hair, or eyes, the language we speak and the way we laugh make us all different. God made us all. God didn't make us the same for a reason. There is a purpose for all the differences. Finding what that purpose is for our lives is a hard task. "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1. Someday we all will know why we are here and what our purpose is, I think it has to do with our differences, the thing that makes us different from the rest of the people around us. Like for me, maybe my "art" (if you call it that, not sure I do), or my use of computers, even this blog might be part of my purpose. I may never know until I get to meet God face to face. I do know I need to live everyday willing to do whatever it is he has for me to do. I need to be different.

THOUGHTS

My bible study today was about toxic thoughts. In I Corinthians 10, the bible speaks about the weapons of our warfare not being carnal or made of flesh. The weapons that Satan uses against us and that we have to in turn use against him is our thoughts. We have to get rid of the toxic thoughts that Satan throws our way and replace them with good thoughts. That is why memorizing scripture is so important.

I have to admit that my thoughts often get the better of me. I have thoughts in my mind like a hall closet filled to the brim about to explode. The thoughts I have are not evil really, they just cause me to remember things I should have long since put aside, past failures and hurts. Satan is good at bringing those up in my mind causing me to have feelings I shouldn't. I need to meditate more on the Word of God, and memorize more of his promises so I can hurl them back at Satan when he flings his fiery darts at me. My prayer is God will help me work through these thoughts that so easily set me on the wrong path and replace them with His Word.

REFLECT

As I stated yesterday I am doing a project with a group of artist. This is another "RE" word I picked, the quote is a good one and I really liked the drawing for it so I am using it today also.

When something is reflected it is a mirror image of the original. If you know any thing about mirror images you know they are exact copies except they are backwards. This gets me to thinking about how we are to reflect God and his Love for all. The thing is we because of our human nature we are flawed, "backwards" and can not reflect the true image of God. Jesus told his disciples to be like him, a servant in the world, to love and care for the poor and needy, to let their light shine before men so that they would see the way. I pray that I can reflect God's Love with a servants heart even though it may be a like backwards.

REPAIR

I have been working on another project for a group I belong to Zentangle Inspired Art. Basically, we are to find a "RE" word and draw a picture and find a quote for that word. The word and quote for today here is one of those words because it has been on my mind lately.
I was sent an email that spoke of something that Ben Stein had said about prayer in schools, reading the bible in school, and worshiping celebrities. How he thought that taking prayer and the bible out of school was the reason we have children who think it is ok to kill people including themselves. I also just read another statement that Bill Cosby wrote about the children of his race not being educated, not speaking or dressing right and having no parents who care enough to teach them. (I will post both statements in the comments section)
I agree with most of what these two men had to say, the bible and prayer are important and should be allowed to take place in school if someone wants to participate in that, it should be their right. We should not force anyone who does not want to participate to do so. Do I think that is the only reason kids take guns to school and kill people, NO. I do believe that some children's lack of education, the way they speak, and the way they dress has to do with a lot more than bad parenting. Children learn things from everywhere, TV, home, peers, and life in general.
Repair, that is what we have to do. We need to start in ourselves, we can't repair other people. We also need to build. We need to build up our children in the way we believe and help them to be strong in their beliefs. We need to help them make hard decisions as they grow up so that when they are on their own they will know how to make good decisions. I know that some of the things both of these men said about families and parents do not apply to many people. I am a single parent, I had to work, and I am sure I didn't do everything right. My daughter is a wonderful woman and she will make a good mom someday. The quote for today will sum up what I am trying to say.... We can't repair anyone but ourselves, we can build up our children to be strong adults.

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.

RESPECT

This word as with most words has many different "meanings" to different people. It is a powerful word!I have a rule (oh no not that again) in my class "Respect Everyone." When the children first see that rule I ask them what respect means. I hear: Be nice to people, say please and thank-you, don't hit people, say yes ma'am and no ma'am, etc. I tell the children that those are all good ways to respect someone and I continue to guide them into the definition I use for the word. I want them to understand the meaning of respect in my class. I ask them if they have ever heard the "Golden Rule." Many of them sadly do not know it. By the end of their first year with me they do. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I let them know you don't have to "like" someone to respect them, "like" has nothing to do with it. We have had some very good discussions about what the Golden Rule means and it helps them to learn how to respect people. If we treat people they way we want to be treated that is RESPECT.

BELIEVE

I believe.....

I believe in many things. I think it is important to believe in something. Believing is different from trusting, I think believing goes deeper that trust. I am going to state my beliefs about God and spirituality, these are my beliefs, I am not trying to push my ideas on anyone. I want anyone who reads this to understand where I get my thoughts and ideas. These beliefs are my foundation:

I. I believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God given to men as a revelation of Himself. I believe it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness.

II. I believe in the Trinity. I believe in God the Father, the creator of heaven and earth. I believe in God the Son, the giver of eternal life. I believe in the Holy Spirit who lives in me.

III. I believe Jesus God's Son came to the earth born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and was crucified for my sins. He died on the cross and was placed in a tomb and arose on the 3rd day just as He promised. He now sits on the right hand of the Father. I believe Jesus is my Savior.

IV. I believe that one day Jesus will come again and take me to live with him! I believe one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

V. I believe the Holy Spirit lives in me and helps me to do the things God wishes me to do. He leads me in the paths of righteousness if I will let Him.

I believe that everyone reading this has a special purpose and their own beliefs that guide them. I believe you all have a right to hold those beliefs and no one should disrespect you for them. Just as I have the right to mine. I can tell you my beliefs and hope that we share some, that doesn't mean I want you to change. If everyone thought or believed the same, the world would be a pretty boring place I think. We need differences.... just as we need to believe!

CHANGE

Does anyone really like change? We often know change is good, and often needed that doesn't mean we have to like it. Let's face it if there had never been such thing as change in the world then we would not be where we are today. Change happens because people see the need for difference and growth. If someone doesn't change and grow they become bitter and stagnant, maybe even mean. People have been writing about change throughout history in books, journals, and songs. So that means change is pretty important in life. I am not talking about changes people make to impress and then go back to the other ways after. I mean changes that lasts. Change that makes a difference for the good mostly. People can change for the "wrong" reasons also. God wants us to become more like Him on a daily basis, we have to change to accomplish that. He gave us a guide to help us, the Bible. I want to change to be more like my Savior, will I accomplish that, probably not, that doesn't mean I shouldn't try.

The Quote:

Ch-ch-changes

WORDS

For such a small word this word can do quite a lot. It can harm, it can help, it can encourage, or damage. Words are more powerful that a two-edged sword. They can get etched in the recesses of a persons mind and play over and over again for good or bad. Words can stop and start Wars! The bible has a lot to say about words, and how we use them, especially in Proverbs. I am preached at daily from Proverbs on how I use my words. I wish I listened more often. I try to watch what I say, I don't always succeed (in fact I hardly ever succeed). I want to use these words I am posting daily to be uplifting, and to help. That may not always happen. I pray for guidance from God on the words to choose and what to say about them.

STRESS

Have you ever felt stress? We all feel it. Even little babies feel stress. Today, I would like to not be stressed. The thing is I am starting out that way. I was stressed over picking a word today. Now I have to go to work. After work I have a STRESS test. These days always seem to make me more stressful. I am always afraid I will fail the test. I want my heart to get stronger and I am trying all I can to help that happen. It is not easy. I need to trust God and ask for his peace over this stress day today.

STRETCHED

Have you ever just felt stretched. Like your on one of those torture machines. You know the one, where your legs are tied to pulleys at one end of a table and your arms are tied to them at the other end, then someone or something is cranking a crank stretching your body in all directions. I feel stretched in many directions often. I may feel like doing something that might not be right or good and being pulled the other way to do the right thing. I can be stretched when I know someone needs my help but I just really don't want to help. The thoughts I have can stretch me too. When I start feeling this way I want to run and hide, or at least try to. That accomplishes nothing. We have to stretch before we exercise, I guess before we make decisions we should be stretched also. It can be painful, but needed.

LAUNDRY

Today is laundry day for me. I do not like laundry day, it means I have to spend more than an hour at the laundromat. We all have laundry it is a never ending cycle of wash clothes, wear clothes, the clothes get dirty, wash clothes again and on and on and on.

We are humans and live in a dirty place which cause us to seek to clean ourselves and our clothes often. It is the same with our spiritual clothes, our armor. It does not stay clean if  we use it the way we should. The world, Satan, and even our own lives cause dirt and filth to build up on our armor rendering them ineffective. We should have a spiritual laundry day everyday, possibly more often. At least for me, I know I get dirty and cause my armor to stop being effective quite often. The way I have to clean it is to ask God for forgiveness, and ask Him to show me how not to get dirty in that way again. It is not an easy task, and I fail more than I succeed. My failure is not God's fault, there is no fault in Him. It is my fault, for either not listening to His instruction, or willfully doing that thing again; as a result the spiritual laundry day becomes a ongoing cycle of wash, get dirty, become ineffective, wash again, and on and on and on.

The Quote:
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— ~Ephesians 6:10-18

TRY

My class rules again.

"Try to do your very best," I ask the kids which of the words in that rule is the most important. Of course they always say best. I explain that you can't do your best until you try. Trying is important, just plopping down with your arms crossed and saying I can't "is not the right attitude" as one of my first grade students said. My mother always said “can't, never could till he tried.” We have to try. We have to put effort out, for our best to be achieved.

Another point I make to my students about this rule is that everyone's best is not the same! If two people are running a race one is going to win and one is going to lose, does that mean the loser didn't do their best? No! it just means their best was different. They tried and that was the important part!

Try, try, try, again.

If at first you don't succeed,

Try, try, try again.'

RAIN

It has been raining here for a few weeks off and on, the last two days have been almost non stop. Flash floods are a possibility in most of the area. Rain happens in the physical world when water falls from the sky; there can be good rain that is needed and beneficial and rain that is not helpful, even dangerous. Rain also falls in our personal lives in the same ways. Some is soothing, helping us to be at ease and peaceful. While other rains are like hurricanes sweeping us through that period of time for what seems like an eternity with pain and fear. The best thing to do when these rains come (whether wanted or not), is to remember, God allowed them to come to our lives for a reason. He would not have let us experience the rain in our lives if it wasn't needed, and helpful, even the hurricanes. There is strength at the end of the rain. The storm won't last forever. The water may flood your life and make you feel as though you will drown, you can make it through. In the end you will be "glad" for the rain, the storm, or the hurricane.

LEARNING

This week at school (I am a teacher), I have been reviewing my class rules with my students. Some of the rules are very important to me. They are actually rules that I try to follow in my life today and I hope the students can learn they are important for them to use throughout their life. One is: Be ready to learn something new everyday. Learning is a life-long process, we should never stop learning. When we stop learning, I think our brain stops working the way it should and life isn't as full as it could be. I try to learn new things, even if it is a new twist on something old. Or just a new technique or pattern to use in my art. I want to keep my mind functioning and my life full of newness.

The Quote:
Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. ~Henry Ford

WISDOM

The dictionary has many definitions of wisdom; accumulation of knowledge, discernment of inner qualities or relationships, good sense, and a generally excepted belief to name a few. The Bible says a lot about wisdom also. I believe the wisest human ever to live was a King in Israel, Solomon. He wrote Proverbs (and other parts of the Bible) that were for his children and the world to help us understand the wisdom and the right way to live. Some of the things he wrote about are common sense, and some are very profound. Today, as I was reading Proverbs 8, Wisdom came alive. Wisdom cries out to us all and almost begs us to find it. Wisdom wants to help us to live abundantly, and to be rich in things other than silver and gold. Wisdom existed before the foundation of the world. It was there when all things were created. Wisdom is alive, the quote leads me to believe that wisdom is Jesus. He was, is, and will be forever, He is the beginning and the end.... He is Wisdom.

And obtains favor from the Lord;
But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul;

SYMPHONY

Sitting in church last night while praying a point was made that God can hear our hearts, every thought every word. That started me thinking about how no one is exactly like any other person. So it would also fit that no heartbeats would be the same... Can you imagine God's marvelous symphony he hears when all of our hearts beat. The harmony has to be wonderful, the timing grand. I hope God has a recording of it for us to hear when we get to heaven. That would be awesome!

WORK

It is time to go back to work after the Christmas break. I always have mixed feelings about going back to work after a break. Sometimes I am glad because it means I have something to do. Then I also would rather stay at home and do things like this. I am glad I have a job, and I hope that I am able to continue to work for a couple of more years. I guess that depends on my heart, maybe I talk about that some other time. Work is important, it is also important to give your best in all that you do, work included. I try not to go to work with a halfhearted attitude, do I always succeed, no. I always want to do my best even if I don't.

The Quote:
"Commit your works to the Lord,
And your thoughts will be established." Proverbs 16:3

I want the work that I do to always be dedicated to the Lord. I do not always ask God to lead me through the day, or to make my work pleasing to him. I forget to ask for his guidance and I forget to give my all to Him. I need to try and do better at committing my work to the Lord.
