CLING

Cling: to adhere as if glued firmly. I like that definition, especially in regard to this topic. The next part of the verses I am "taking apart" states, "Cling to what is good." So glue firmly what is good. Where do we glue it? How do we cling to it? What is good? May be some questions we could and should ask.

I think the Bible is full of advise about good and how to attach it to our lives. Proverbs is full of practical ideas to guide a believer through life, and there is exactly 31 chapters, just enough to read one a day in a month, over and over. Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct your paths." Do you think that might be a way to cling to that which is good? James 4:7 says, "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." I think Jesus was a perfect example of how to resist the devil when He was tempted in the wilderness, He used the Bible against him and finally he (the devil) left Him (Jesus) alone, for a season. So hiding the word of God in our hearts is clinging to what is good.

There is safety in numbers also, so I imagine clinging to the appropriate friends would be good also. That doesn't mean we should rely only on them, for they are human and will make mistakes. The bible does say that where people are gathered in His name there He is in the midst of them. We are to uplift and encourage each other, to help each other grow and walk in the light.

Prayer is good, and calling out to God in the good times and in the bad times is clinging to that which is good. God always hears us call to Him. He wants us to have a continual conversation with Him. Can you imagine how it was in the Garden before Adam took the fruit. God was there continually walking and talking with His children, His creation, His friends. It wasn't until Adam took of the fruit that was not "good" that he could not face his friend, his creator, his God. He didn't cling to the good that God had for him, and it cost him dearly.

Lord, help me today and every day to find a way to cling to the good things and resist the others.
