BEHIND

There is a young man who I was working with yesterday afternoon. He is in the 4th grade and a very likeable person. Yesterday, was really the first time I had the opportunity to talk to him much other than in class. We were walking out to the back of the school to get some fresh air and he was walking behind me, like he was in line. I told him he could walk beside me because we weren't in a line. He said his mom didn't like him in front of or beside her so he always walk behind. He did move beside me and we continued our wonderful conversation.

I think it is easier to talk to someone when they are beside you. I am sure most people would agree. Neither person can hear as well when they are one behind the other. I guess that is why it is hard to keep children in straight lines in school, even though they aren't supposed to be talking either. I think our walk with Jesus is the same way.

Jesus will always lead, He wants it to be like a casual walk of two friends talking and sharing a moment together. If we are behind then we won't be able to hear His words. If we get in front of Him we are taking control and not listening to His direction. He wants to be our friend and guide through this world. I don't want to walk behind Him, I really don't want to walk in front of Him. I long to be beside Him, to be His Friend, talking and enjoying the walk how ever rough the path is.

The Quote:
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend." ~Albert Camus
